Nike National Championships

Tomorrow I leave town with seven athletes from Brophy College Preparatory have qualified for the Nike National Track and Field Championships. See:Nike Interview. Three teams from Arizona qualified for this prestigious meet. On the girls side both Chandler (5A State Champion) and Desert Vista grabbed 2 of the 12 spots. And on the boys side Brophy College Prep was the top team in the Southwest punching their ticket to Eugene. This is just a tremendous opportunity for these amazing athletes to showcase their skills and talent in an arena unlike anything any of them have ever experienced in the past.

Nike will provide athletes with travel, room and meals for the entire stay (7/1-4/10). In addition, each athlete will receive a uniform, warm-ups, training shoes and competition shoes. Athletes will also be attending the Pre-Fontaine Classic as VIP guests of Nike and a couple of other surprises are planned as well.

Special congratulations to Brophy Prep’s Harry Danilevics and Geoff Roxborough and Chandler High Schools Hanna Carson and Kadija Harris. Many of you had a chance to see just how much work these athletes put in at the Hit Center this year and what a great way to cap off their high school career.

Hit Center Athletes Best In History?

Sounds like an exaggerated statement but that is exactly what Harry Danilevics of Brophy College Preparatory accomplished in the Arizona 5A State Track and Field Championships at Mesa Community College. Harry entered the finals with the fastest 300 meter intermediate hurdle qualifying time and showed everyone why with a State Championship title and the 5th fastest time in Arizona history. Congratulations to Harry Danilevics – Arizona 5A State Champion, 300 Meter Intermediate Hurdles… sounds good doesn’t it.

Here is a video clip of the race (sorry about the quality, the sun made it difficult to see camera screen)

Hit Center Athletes Never Quit!

Wow! That’s all I need to say. We all know how difficult it can be to participate in the Hit Center sports development program. Endless hours of speed development, weight training and drills that our athletes say go on forever :-) But the results are… well words cant describe. Below is video of Harry Danilevics participating in the Chandler Track and Field Invitational – other than the State Track and Field Championships the most prestigious meet in Arizona. In this 300 meter intermediate hurdles final Harry shows us how all of that hard work paid off. Congratulations to Harry Danilevics of Brophy College Preparatory for winning the Chandler Track and Field Invitational (and breaking the meet record!)

Hit Center Track Athletes Breaking Records

Well the season is in full swing now and performances are really improving. Hanna Carson of Chandler High School recently won the U.S. Area Youth Selection Trials – this is a qualifying meet for the up coming Youth Olympics in Singapore. Not only did Hanna win the meet and set a new National Record but Hanna throw of 171’9″ ranks her number 1 in the U.S. (and I’m not talking about high school rankings). Hanna has thrown farther than any college or professional female thrower in the U.S.

Chandler’s Carson sets national javelin record

Chandler High junior Hannah Carson threw the javelin 171 feet, 9 inches today in Arlington, Texas, to set a Young Women (17-20 years old) division national record, her father, Steve Carson, reports.

It obliterated the old record of 158-7 set by Sarah Malone in Eugene, Ore., in 1999.

According to MileSplit U, that mark is the best by a woman in the United States (even at the collegiate level) this year. It surpasses the 170-11 1/4 thrown by Randi Hicks of Long Beach State.

Carson, 17, competing unattached, won the competition at the U.S. Area Youth Olympic Selection Trials that qualifies competitors for this summer’s Youth Olympic Games in Singapore, Aug.14-26.

Carson’s throw was impressive but still short of the high school national record of 176-5 and her own personal record of 173-7 (set in 2008 at the USA Junior Olympics).

“I feel like I can do better,” Carson said.

Because the Arizona Interscholastic Assocation won’t sanction the javelin as a field event at track meets, Carson can’t even practice the event at her school. She usually works on the javelin at Mesa Community College.

Carson will next likely throw at next Saturday’s Sun Angel Classic at Arizona State in the women’s collegiate competition.

Chandler Invitational

Harry Danilevics of Brophy College Prep is also tearing up the track. Harry continued his winning streak by winning one of the most prestigious meets in Arizona – The Chandler Invitational. Harry’s winning time of 37.94 broke the meet record and marks the second time this year that Harry has run under 38 seconds.

The Hit Center Training Staff would like to congratulate Hanna and Harry and we look forward to even better performances

Hanna Carson Named Comeback Athlete of the Week

Hanna Carson named “Comeback Athlete Of The Week”.  Hanna suffered a sever knee injury last February and is now training with Tim O’Neil and his staff at the Mesa Hit Center to prepare for the upcoming Arizona high school track and field season.  Hanna, considered one of Arizona’s elite throwers, won the Arizona 5A State Championships in the shot put and discus as only a freshman.  Even more impressive, Hanna qualified for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials in the javelin – again she was only a freshman in high school.
